January 28th

It comes down to faith in this journey of being a Christ follower rather than just a believer.

Hebrews 11:1 Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see.

2 Corinthians 5:7 For we live by faith, not by sight.

2 Corinthians 4:18 So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.

As we walk on this journey we will face situations and circumstances that will seem impossible or at the very least difficult, and at times may not even make sense to us in the physical realm. So to remain steadfast and keep to the path we have to walk in faith, especially since we can’t see what is right around the bend. This is when we have to grab hold of the promises of God that we have in front of us in Scripture. We have to ask the Lord to help us walk in faith when we don’t understand the situation or can’t see a way through it. We must lean in close to Him and let Him carry us through it by the guidance of the Holy Spirit. We might even need to pray and ask the Lord to open our eyes to the unseen.

2 Chronicles chapter 6 tells us about the prophet Elisha being surrounded by enemies that wanted to kill him. His servant comes to him afraid and worried about how they will survive when they are surrounded by armies with horses and chariots. Elisha tells him not to worry and prays that God would open the eyes of his servant so he could see the reality of the situation. The Lord opened the servant’s eyes and what did he see? He saw that the hills all around them were full of angel armies with horses and chariots of fire!

2 Kings 6:16-17 “Don’t be afraid,” the prophet answered. “Those who are with us are more than those who are with them.” And Elisha prayed, “Open his eyes, Lord, so that he may see.” Then the Lord opened the servant’s eyes, and he looked and saw the hills full of horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha.

So even though they were surrounded by their enemy armies, their enemy was surrounded by God’s angel armies! Sometimes we just need to see God’s forces at work. Above all we need to keep our eyes on Jesus in stead of on the circumstances, because often they are really not what they appear. And after all, if God is on our side, it doesn’t matter who looks like they are against us.

Romans 8:31 What, then, shall we say in response to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?

This year as you face what may seem like impossible circumstances, ask the Lord to open your eyes to His will and then step out in faith with your eyes on Jesus instead of the “seen.”

Jesus, help me to remember that what is seen is not really the true situation. Help me to remember that your truth is bigger than what I see. Thank you so much that you have allowed me to be on your winning team and because of that there is no enemy that I face that matters in the long run. Help me to walk by faith and trust you with every detail of my life. Thank you for your perfect love Jesus.
