OCTOBER 30th

So we need to pray everyday for a great harvest of souls. But, we also need to be a part of that harvest. Who did you tell about Jesus yesterday? Ok so it is a different mindset, a different goal. Part of the problem is how the Church in general has handled/taught about evangelism (sharing the gospel with others.)

One problem in the church is that we definitely celebrate getting saved but we also under-celebrate sharing/witnessing. We seem to only celebrate when we see the result. But when you share your faith with others you have no idea how much that impacts people, preparing their hearts for what the Holy Spirit will do next. There was a man in New Zealand who stood on a street corner and just asked people, “If you died today, would you go to Heaven?” Another man taking a flight happened to run in to 2 different people in 2 different countries (on the same day) and asked them if they were Christians. Both people attributed their salvation to a man on the street corner in New Zealand who asked them if they knew they were going to Heaven, and they just couldn’t shake that question. Eventually they gave their life to the Lord because of it. They didn’t know each other and they didn’t know the man in New Zealand. This intrigued the man on the flight, and he started investigating to see how many people he would find around the world that had the same story. It turns out that HUNDREDS of THOUSANDS of people are Christians today because that man in New Zealand was brave enough to ask that question. So the man flew to New Zealand to find the man himself. He asked him how many people he had led to the Lord himself and the New Zealand man said none. He had no idea that hundreds of thousand of souls were saved because he was obedient and stood on the street asking that question.

This is not to say that you have to stand on the street corner asking questions, but have you tried asking the Holy Spirit who He wants you to talk to when you walk in to Starbucks? I don’t drink coffee so I don’t go to Starbucks but I do go to the grocery store and gas station, etc. The point is that it is a different mindset. We can be so busy with our own life that we just have our focus on what we want/need to do and we totally miss out on what God actually wants us to do. Everywhere you go you have the opportunity to talk to people. You might feel awkward or you may not know what to say. People are looking for answers though and you just might plant a seed that gets watered later. Or you might be watering a seed that was planted earlier. We are to be the light of the world, not hidden, but shining bright. Let your light shine!

Matthew 5:14-16 You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.

We are spoiled in America, our mind has been hijacked by the enemy to thinking that life is about us and happiness and “stuff.” We have been fooled into thinking that evangelism is optional. We have been fooled into thinking that it is only important when it is convenient, or that we shouldn’t look weird or be uncomfortable. We gladly buy in to the idea that our comfort is the most important thing, our “right.” (Preaching to myself here too so don’t feel judged by me, that uncomfortable feeling you have right now is conviction from the Holy Spirit.) Yes we are to be the light to our neighbors, friends, family and coworkers. But we are also to be the light to the cashier, the lady next to us in line, or anyone else that we cross paths with today.

Lord thank you for sacrificing yourself for me. Thank you for being the answer to all of my needs. Help me to realize more and more everyday that you are everything I need. Forgive me for being so much about me and my comfort and my agenda that I missed out on your plan. Help me to share You with others everyday. Show me who and show me how please. Thank you for your patience, your forgiveness and your love. Help me to shine your light EVERYWHERE I go.
