OCTOBER 28th
The Word of God is a sword; we read about it in Ephesians 6.
Ephesians 6:17 Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.
There is more to the word than just a weapon against the enemy though. First, we must remember it is not just words on a page, it is the WORD of GOD, ALIVE and ACTIVE. There has never been and will never be another book whose words are alive and active by the Spirit of God.
Sometimes the Word stings because it is hard Truth that we need to hear.
Hebrews 4:12 For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.
It brings the wake up call that we need to hear when our attitude or faith is slipping.
2 Timothy 3:15-17 and how from infancy you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.
It is makes us wise, showing us the plan of salvation, teaching us and training us in righteousness so that we can carry out the plan that God made for each of us. It rebukes and corrects us when we are wrong. It draws the line in the sand so we know where we should not step but it also shows us the means of grace when we have wandered across that line. It directs our steps if we let it.
Psalm 119:105 Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path.
It does something more though. It brings blessings into our lives; it brings success so that we thrive instead of just exist. Read the verses in Joshua that surround the verse we read yesterday. Pay attention to the consequences/results/promises that come with meditating on His Word.
Joshua 1:7-9 Be strong and very courageous. Be careful to obey all the law my servant Moses gave you; do not turn from it to the right or to the left, that you may be successful wherever you go. Keep this Book of the Law always on your lips; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful. Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.
We have so much more to gain from the Word of God than we remember to notice. It is God-breathed. I don’t know about you, but I want as much as I can get of anything that God breathed! Let’s take advantage of this wonderful gift that He has given us today!
Father God, thank you for the gift of your breathed Word. Thank you for making it available to me. Thank you for sending me your Holy Spirit to remind me of Your Words. Help me not to neglect Your Word so that I can be strong and thrive and be fruitful for you. Thank you for your patience and your great love for me and your perfect plan.
