DAY 72

If you are task oriented or a planner, you might be itching for a recipe or a to do list in order to succeed in what lays ahead of us. But we have to get over that desire or tendency. Yes, certainly there are things that we should be doing to optimize our relationship with Jesus, like spending time with Him and reading the Word of God. But we need to know in our heart of hearts that Jesus doesn’t have what we need to succeed.

Yes, I said that. You read it right. And I will say it again, Jesus doesn’t have what we need to succeed. And we need to quit thinking like He does. Jesus doesn’t have what we need…

Jesus IS what we need.

We need to quit thinking like we just need to connect so we can get what He has to give us. It is not about what we can get from Jesus. It is about Jesus. Being with Jesus is what we need. We don’t need more peace, we need more Jesus.

Think about it in terms of the Holy Spirit. You have heard us say “Don’t chase the fruit, chase the Spirit.” If you seek God/Jesus/Holy Spirit and fill yourself up with Him, the fruit will be there. If you don’t quench the Holy Spirit in you, the fruit of the Spirit will flow freely. Love, Joy, Peace, Patience, Kindness, Goodness, Gentleness, Faithfulness, and Self Control. Those are fruit of the Holy Spirit, they are a result of the presence of the Holy Spirit. You can’t have them without the presence of the Holy Spirit.

So, it is not about what we can get from God, it is about how much of God can we get.

What we need to face the future and our everyday lives, is Jesus; As much of Jesus as we can possible get. What we need to face whatever trials and tribulations are in store for us, is as much Jesus as we can get. Our focus needs to be on the relationship, not the fruit. If we are spending as much time with Jesus as possible, He will lead us to exactly who we need to minister to and give us exactly the words to say and the things to do and exactly what we need. He will give us the strength we need to face what we must face, whether that is loss or plenty, grief and sorrow or joy and peace. HE is the answer.

If you need a to do list, make a list of all of the areas of your life and heart that you need to surrender to Jesus and then start working your way down that list. Ask Jesus to help you, remember it is about the relationship!

Remember God calls Himself “I AM” not “I have.” He IS who we need.

Exodus 3:14 God said to Moses, “I AM WHO I AM. This is what you are to say to the Israelites: ‘I AM has sent me to you.’ ”

John 6:48 I am the bread of life.

John 6:51 I am the living bread that came down from heaven. Whoever eats this bread will live forever. This bread is my flesh, which I will give for the life of the world.”

John 14:6 Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.

Jesus IS what we need, He IS the bread of life that we need to live, He IS the Truth, that we need to live right and to recognize the lies. Jesus IS exactly and completely what we need to face Revelation and what is ahead in our lives.

Jesus, forgive me for always making it about what I need to get from you. Help me to remember that you ARE everything I need. Help me to think about you the right way. Help me to cherish and nurture my relationship with you. Forgive me for neglecting you and thinking that seeking the fruit is the answer. Help me to seek you and only you. Please show me how to do this, I need your help. I really DO need you Jesus. Thank you for loving me and for preferring to spend time with me.
