5 loaves, 2 fish and a pile of dirt
Speaking of miracles…these are examples of how our God can take something that has little value and make something profound…both in quantity and quality. Too often we see a situation and think that there is no way the available resources can be enough to survive, let alone thrive. But our God makes the impossible possible.
Luke 18:27 Jesus replied, “What is impossible with man is possible with God.”
Over and over again in the gospels we see Jesus take little and make much. The water into wine being the first miracle but not the biggest. Look at how he took the 5 barley loaves (those were itty bitty things, not a giant subway) and 2 little fish and He fed 5,000+men and their families. Not only that, He made sure there were 12 baskets full of food left over! He gave them more than they needed!
Matthew 14:19-21 And he directed the people to sit down on the grass. Taking the five loaves and the two fish and looking up to heaven, he gave thanks and broke the loaves. Then he gave them to the disciples, and the disciples gave them to the people. They all ate and were satisfied, and the disciples picked up twelve basketfuls of broken pieces that were left over. The number of those who ate was about five thousand men, besides women and children.
This our God, this is who He is! Let’s go back even further…to a pile of dirt! Here God is creating the universe…the sun, the moons, the stars, the planets and solar systems, galaxies…then He takes a pile of dirt and creates His masterpiece…a human. The most complex creation ever made was created from a pile of dirt.
Genesis 2:7 Then the Lord God formed a man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being.
The truth is that it is not about the starting material used, either in quantity or quality. It is about the hand of God. Once God is introduced into the situation, everything is changed. God’s breath or God’s blessing will make anything into a beyond belief masterpiece!
So next time you are faced with a situation that feels scarce or low on resources, remember who you are praying to when you ask for provision. The next time you are facing an impossible situation, remember that God’s breath can do the most complex thing and He is not far from you!
When you are in circumstances that seem insurmountable, remember what God can do with five loaves, two fish and a pile of dirt!
Jeremiah 32:17 Ah, Sovereign Lord, you have made the heavens and the earth by your great power and outstretched arm. Nothing is too hard for you.
Jesus, you are the sovereign, all powerful Creator and Ruler of the universe. There is nothing too hard for you! I feel so small compared to the vast creation but thank you for loving me and taking care of me. Help me to only look to you for everything I need instead of worrying. Help me to remember that nothing is impossible with You! Thank you for always doing what is best for me.
