April 27th

Sometimes we think we have such good ideas and plans…

But here’s the question that we should have the right answer for:

Did you pray about it?

The problem with good ideas is that sometimes they are not GOD ideas.

Philippians 4:6 Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.

In every situation…are you in the habit yet of praying about everything? Or do you think that some things are God’s territory and some are reserved for you?

Do you think about seeking the Lord’s will for your vacation or road trip or responsibility that you decide to take on, or those you decide to quit?

Do you pray about the big events but the day to day activities you just do, without a thought for what the Lord’s will might be each day?

James 4:13-15 Now listen, you who say, “Today or tomorrow we will go to this or that city, spend a year there, carry on business and make money.” Why, you do not even know what will happen tomorrow. What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes. Instead, you ought to say, “If it is the Lord’s will, we will live and do this or that.”

Sometimes things in life get messy because it’s life, we live in a broken world with broken humans, sometimes life is messy because we are doing the Lord’s will and the enemy wants to take us out or at least mess with us, but sometimes life is messy because we just make plans without asking God His opinion.

Let’s look at some verses:

Proverbs 3:5-6 Trust in the LORD with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take.

Psalm 32:8-9 The LORD says, “I will guide you along the best pathway for your life. I will advise you and watch over you. Do not be like a senseless horse or mule that needs a bit and bridle to keep it under control.”

Isaiah 30:21 Your own ears will hear him. Right behind you a voice will say, “This is the way you should go,” whether to the right or to the left.

Psalm 25:4-5 Show me the right path, O LORD; point out the road for me to follow. Lead me by your truth and teach me, for you are the God who saves me. All day long I put my hope in you.

Psalm 73:24 You guide me with your counsel, leading me to a glorious destiny.

James 1:5 If you need wisdom, ask our generous God, and he will give it to you. He will not rebuke you for asking.

John 16:13 When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all truth. He will not speak on his own but will tell you what he has heard. He will tell you about the future.

Proverbs 16:9 We can make our plans, but the LORD determines our steps.

Isaiah 48:17-18 This is what the LORD says— your Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel: “I am the LORD your God, who teaches you what is good for you and leads you along the paths you should follow. Oh, that you had listened to my commands! Then you would have had peace flowing like a gentle river and righteousness rolling over you like waves in the sea.

It’s not just the big plans in our life, like career/jobs, moving to particular locations, etc. We should be praying about our day, each day. When we start our day we should pray and ask the Lord what His plan is for that day. I don’t know about you but I would rather walk in the steps that He has planned for me than to spend my day doing my own thing and trying to pick up the pieces later!

Jesus thank you that you have a plan for everyone of my days. Help me to walk in that plan. Forgive me for just making plans without consulting you. Help me to remember to ask you what is best each day. Thank you that you want what is best for me and you have given me preferences and desires for a reason and you will make use of those. Thank you Holy Spirit for being willing to lead me and help me to be sensitive to your leading.
