Ok let’s look at this disciple thing from another angle.
God knew what He was doing when He chose you and called you to be a disciple making disciples. When you doubt or ignore your calling, you are basically saying God doesn’t know what He is doing.
Your view of yourself is not accurate, time to get that in your head. Only God’s view of you is accurate. You have to understand that He created you with specific strengths and weaknesses (some that you don’t even know about yet) for a reason and He took those into account when He made the plan for your life.
2 Corinthians 12:9 But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me.
God’s power shines in our weaknesses. When we are weak, we can’t take the credit, all the glory belongs to God. You were created with a purpose and whether you feel competent or not is not the issue. We need to understand our calling is God’s idea, He called you to be a disciple making disciples, and He doesn’t make mistakes.
Realize this: you were created for this exact thing. THIS is what you were made for, and you will never feel totally fulfilled until you lean in to this calling.
John 10:10 The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.
Another translation calls it abundant life instead of “have it to the full.” Why is it so easy to wander away from the faith? Because we have not experienced the fullness of God in our lives, we have not experienced the abundant life for which we were created. If we are not being obedient in being disciples making disciples, then we have no clue what it feels like to have abundant life. When we truly discover life to the full, there is nothing in this world that compares to it.
Ephesians 2:10 For we are God’s handiwork/masterpiece, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.
You are a masterpiece created by God for this exact purpose and just like an artist signs a work of art, God’s signature is all over you, His fingerprints are all over you. Embrace that!
This isn’t on you, it is on Him, you just need to be obedient. He created you to do this and what He created you to do is IMPORTANT to His plan! You need to realize your place in His plan, His perfect plan! God does NOT make mistakes. SO, even if you have royally messed up your life, He knew you would and He worked His grace and redemption into His plan for you. And, His plan does NOT end at salvation, THAT is just the beginning. There is no getting saved and then coasting into Heaven, you will have to answer for what you did after being saved. Oh what you do won’t get you into Heaven, but you will be accountable. Besides don’t you want to be who God created you to be? Cups are made to drink from, chairs are made to sit on, YOU were made to be a disciple making disciples!
Jesus, help me to really understand my purpose and calling/mission. Help me to see it and embrace it. Help me to walk in it. Help me get over myself and my insecurities, and be who you created me to be. Help me start today. I love you Lord, thank you for your patience and encouragement. Thank you for your perfect love and perfect plan.
