February 21st

As we lean in to making disciples, we have an advantage that no other project or commission ever given on earth has ever had.

We not only have an instruction manual that gives directions but also tells us what has happened and what will happen. In addition, this is no ordinary book. No other book is alive. No other book literally changes people.

Hebrews 4:12 For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.

There is no other book that, when read, allows the reader to get to know the author, -intimately. And it is a mystery that we don’t fully understand now, but He IS the Word.

John 1:14 The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.

And this is no ordinary author; He is the Creator of the universe not just the writer of the manual. He made the plan and is facilitating it every step of the way, and has told us the ending.

Philippians 3:20-21 But our citizenship is in heaven. And we eagerly await a Savior from there, the Lord Jesus Christ, who, by the power that enables him to bring everything under his control, will transform our lowly bodies so that they will be like his glorious body.

So, we don’t just have this big commission to accomplish by chance. He set us up for success!

2 Timothy 3:15-17 and how from infancy you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.

We cannot fail! Oh, not that we won’t make mistakes or mess up, but because those mistakes and mess ups are already covered by grace and considered in the plan, we CAN succeed in making disciples! We just need to walk by the Spirit that He gave us to guide us and use the manual He gave us to guide us.

Romans 8:14 For those who are led by the Spirit of God are the children of God.

So let’s embrace the commission and the tools that He gave us to successfully make disciples!

Jesus, Word of God, I praise you for who you are and thank you that you have every detail planned out and I thank you that you have given us your Word not only for direction but also that you have shared the hope of the future with us so that we know what to expect. Help me to remember that you have it all under control and we know how it ends. Help me to understand and learn your Word and to know your voice as you lead me in making disciples. Thank you Jesus, for your perfect plan and perfect love.
