February 16th

Do you find yourself worried about this calling that Jesus has given you to make disciples? Do you feel unworthy? Unqualified? Just nervous and unsure? Scared to death?

There is a Psalm in the Bible that would be good to memorize as a great reminder of who God is and who He is to us. When we remember who HE is, we are less worried about who WE are. When we remember how much bigger He is than what we face, we worry less about how we fall short or how weak we are. There are so many good verses in this psalm to meditate on, so read it slowly and let it sink in to your heart. Let it speak to you today.

Psalm 46

God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble.

Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea, though its waters roar and foam and the mountains quake with their surging.

There is a river whose streams make glad the city of God, the holy place where the Most High dwells. God is within her, she will not fall; God will help her at break of day.

Nations are in uproar, kingdoms fall; he lifts his voice, the earth melts. The Lord Almighty is with us; the God of Jacob is our fortress.

Come and see what the Lord has done, the desolations he has brought on the earth. He makes wars cease to the ends of the earth. He breaks the bow and shatters the spear; he burns the shields with fire.

He says, “Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.” The Lord Almighty is with us; the God of Jacob is our fortress.

After verses 7 and 11, the musical directive “Selah” is given by the writer. This term basically means to pause and let it sink in, -so do that! Pause and let it sink in to your being.

God is YOUR refuge and strength and an ever-present help in trouble. No matter how bad it gets or whatever happens, we can rest in HIM. HE is our help. Even when the nations are in uproar and kingdoms fall, when HE lifts His voice, the earth melts! As we saw in Revelation there is judgement to come, but there is also mercy for those who will repent. HE is a God of love, mercy and grace and only those who refuse to repent will suffer those consequences. But we are His and we get to say, “Come and see what the Lord has done!” And in the midst of all of the mess around us, in the midst of walking as His disciple and trying to follow His call, we can hear Him say to us, “Be still, and know that I am God.”

There are no better words to calm our hearts when we are nervous or anxious. Today rest in Jesus. Know that He is God and that He knows what He is doing. He knew what He was doing when He called you and He knows what He is doing when He puts you in situations where you can be the light and make disciples. Rest in Him.

Jesus, thank you that you are always with me and will help me whenever I need it. Help me to remember that. Help me to be still in you. Help me to “know” with my whole being that you are God, not just with my head. Thank you that you created me to do exactly what you are putting in front of me to do and help me to remember that and to surrender to your will. Help me to recognize and deal with the lies of the enemy that try to defeat me. Thank you Jesus for your perfect plan and perfect love.
