May 26th     

So we have chosen Jesus. We believe and now we are choosing to be Christ followers not just believers. What does that mean? The details of how that is worked out in your life will differ but the principles are the same. God does not leave us where we were or how we were, when He found us. We talked about how you don’t get cleaned up to come to Jesus, you come to Jesus to get cleaned up. What does that process look like?

Jesus does the washing, He is the only one who can. We don’t have the power to do it on our own. But that doesn’t let us off the hook completely. We have to choose, we have to be willing and we have to surrender. Remember God will not violate free will.

This means that if we don’t choose to change, it ain’t happenin’. The Holy Spirit is working on our hearts to lead us to repentance and surrender, but the Holy Spirit doesn’t make the choice for us. He does help us work down through all the layers of resistance, some of which we are likely not even aware of most of the time. Often surrendering a particular habit or mindset is done one deep-rooted layer at a time until there is full surrender. Sometimes that first layer is the hardest to surrender, sometimes the last layer is the hardest. The blessing is, that it is by grace that each layer is surrendered. The prevenient grace of God enables us to surrender. Nothing is exempt. What is the Lord calling you to surrender today? What have you been holding on to, ignoring or refusing to address? What hurt, habit, hangup or anger have you refused to loosen your grip on or address?

Matthew 19:26 Jesus looked at them and said, “With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.”

Nothing is impossible with God, -even that thing that you are carrying that seems impossible to defeat, that hurt or that sin that seems to have you bound up. Freedom is possible. Even if you can’t seem to find the will to let go; if you are willing to let Him make you willing, that is a fine start that the Holy Spirit can run with if you let Him. Just talk to Him about it and ask Him to make you willing.

The word says that He is willing to make us willing.

Philippian 2:13 for it is God who works in you to will and to act in order to fulfill his good purpose.

So if you want the full abundant life that is only found in Jesus, surrender to the Holy Spirit today and get on with your spiritual journey with Jesus.

Jesus thank you for making new life possible for me. Help me to see myself and my life through your eyes. Help me to be willing to surrender to you and let you take the wheel in my life. Thank you for being willing to work in my heart so that I will be willing to surrender EVERYTHING. Help me to see that you make all things possible. Thank you for being willing to free me.
