May 29th

What tugs at your heart? What are you passionate about? What do you wish you could help change in this world? Those are the things you should spend time praying about regularly. People devote time to praying about what moves their hearts. Is it broken families, hunger, homelessness, poor education system, government, lost souls? Take some time today and make a written list of the things that concern you or make you worried, sad or frustrated. Then there is your prayer list for the next month or so. You may not see the results you want as quickly as you would like but then again, there is no absolute way to measure the results of prayer because sometimes your prayers prevent things from getting worse and you will never know that.

Your passion is there for a reason. The things that prick your heart are there for a reason. Ask the Holy Spirit to show you what and how to pray. When God made you, He put desires in you that you haven’t even discovered yet and some of those might be there just so you will pray about/for certain people or things.

Know that as you pray you put angels to flight to act on the very things you are praying about. Know that the prevenient grace of God is already there working as well, so your “little ol’ prayer” is much more powerful than you can imagine. Pay attention to the second part of this verse we read yesterday.

James 5:16 Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective.

1 Timothy 2:1-4 I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people— for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness. This is good, and pleases God our Savior, who wants all people to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth.

We should be praying for those in our lives and those authority.

We should be praying for believers around the globe.

Ephesians 6:18 And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people.

You can and should also ask others to join with you in prayer, even if they are not passionate about the same things, you can agree with each other in prayer on the things you are each passionate about. Nothing is more powerful in a community than coming together in prayer.

Matthew 18:18-20 “Truly I tell you, whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven. Again, truly I tell you that if two of you on earth agree about anything they ask for, it will be done for them by my Father in heaven. For where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them.”

Jesus thank you for giving me passion. Help me to identify the areas that you want me to focus on in prayer and show me how to pray. Holy Spirit, I give you permission to prompt me to pray at any time day or night. Show me verses to pray for the things that you ask me to pray for so that I pray with power, lined up with the Word of God. Thank you for leading me in this prayer journey and help me to become more diligent in prayer.
