SEPTEMBER 13th

We think we have waited so long for Jesus to return and take us Heaven, don’t we?

Since Christ’s ascension to Heaven after He rose from the dead, modern believers have waited for a few thousand years. Seems like forever. Getting antsy? Ready for His return?

I was pondering this the other day and talking to the Lord about it as I was driving and I was struck by the distinct impression that the Lord responded with, “you think humans have been waiting a long time, what about Me??”

Then for the first time it dawned on me how much the Lord has been anxiously awaiting that day. I can imagine Him there at the throne interceding for us and eagerly waiting for the Father to say, “It’s time!”

Oh how He wants us with Him! He has been waiting more thousands of years, since creation, eagerly anticipating the day that He would come for us! He can’t wait! But…He doesn’t want anyone left behind so He is waiting until just the right time when all those who will choose Him before then have made the choice. He knows exactly what it will take. He wishes that none would perish in Hell, but unfortunately some will.

2 Peter 3:3-14 Above all, you must understand that in the last days scoffers will come, scoffing and following their own evil desires. They will say, “Where is this ‘coming’ he promised? Ever since our ancestors died, everything goes on as it has since the beginning of creation.” But they deliberately forget that long ago by God’s word the heavens came into being and the earth was formed out of water and by water. By these waters also the world of that time was deluged and destroyed. By the same word the present heavens and earth are reserved for fire, being kept for the day of judgment and destruction of the ungodly. But do not forget this one thing, dear friends: With the Lord a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like a day. The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. Instead he is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance. But the day of the Lord will come like a thief. The heavens will disappear with a roar; the elements will be destroyed by fire, and the earth and everything done in it will be laid bare. Since everything will be destroyed in this way, what kind of people ought you to be? You ought to live holy and godly lives as you look forward to the day of God and speed its coming. That day will bring about the destruction of the heavens by fire, and the elements will melt in the heat. But in keeping with his promise we are looking forward to a new heaven and a new earth, where righteousness dwells. So then, dear friends, since you are looking forward to this, make every effort to be found spotless, blameless and at peace with him.

I can think of several reasons why our Lord would be eager to come get us…He wants to bring us relief from this evil world, He wants to see us without pain, but most of all He wants us WITH Him! I never thought about it in that respect…that HE is eager to get US.

Come Lord Jesus Come! Please show me what I can do today to speed your coming. Forgive me for wasting time and energy on other things. Help me to keep focused on Your plan. Thank you for your patience with all of us! Teach me to pray for the harvest and be bold in my witness for you!
