Where are you?
Luke 17:11-19 On the way to Jerusalem he was passing along between Samaria and Galilee. And as he entered a village, he was met by ten lepers, who stood at a distance and lifted up their voices, saying, “Jesus, Master, have mercy on us.” When he saw them he said to them, “Go and show yourselves to the priests.” And as they went they were cleansed. Then one of them, when he saw that he was healed, turned back, praising God with a loud voice; and he fell on his face at Jesus’ feet, giving him thanks. Now he was a Samaritan. Then Jesus answered, “Were not ten cleansed? Where are the nine? Was no one found to return and give praise to God except this foreigner?” And he said to him, “Rise and go your way; your faith has made you well.”
When we read this passage what message do we usually get from it? Be grateful? Sure, that is in fact one of the messages in this passage. But let’s dig in even more.
These were 10 lepers being rescued by Jesus from not only death but also from a horrendous life. That’s us. We have been rescued by Jesus from death and from a horrendous life. Sure, it may not be the physical pain and suffering that those lepers experienced, but spiritually speaking, we were destitute and condemned before we met Jesus, -no better off than lepers. We should be living a life pointed toward gratitude, every single day. But we forget what we were rescued from don’t we?
To the one who did return and thank Him, Jesus asked where the others were. They received the healing that this man did and yet they were not there to glorify Jesus or thank Him or worship Him.
Jesus is asking us, “where are you?”
Are we too busy? Are we ungrateful? Do we feel entitled? Are we apathetic or indifferent? Are we too distracted?
Where are you? Are you at His feet regularly thanking Him for rescuing you? Are you worshiping Him? We have received wholeness and are receiving healing (transformation back to who He created us to be) so what is our response? Have we just tacked Him on to OUR life? Do we act like He is just our “get out of hell free card” ?
Today, let’s examine ourselves to see where we are…
Jesus, thank you for rescuing me, forgive me for not always being grateful. Forgive me for being too busy for you. You deserve all of my time and attention, my worship and gratitude. Help me to have a grateful heart and put you first.
