More on that same passage…
Luke 17:11-19 On the way to Jerusalem he was passing along between Samaria and Galilee. And as he entered a village, he was met by ten lepers, who stood at a distance and lifted up their voices, saying, “Jesus, Master, have mercy on us.” When he saw them he said to them, “Go and show yourselves to the priests.” And as they went they were cleansed. Then one of them, when he saw that he was healed, turned back, praising God with a loud voice; and he fell on his face at Jesus’ feet, giving him thanks. Now he was a Samaritan. Then Jesus answered, “Were not ten cleansed? Where are the nine? Was no one found to return and give praise to God except this foreigner?” And he said to him, “Rise and go your way; your faith has made you well.”
Notice that Jesus didn’t say, “Be healed.” Instead, He told them to go and show themselves to the priests. The priests were required to verify that people had been healed from skin conditions/diseases back in that day. The priests were the only ones who could declare someone “clean” again.
Notice the next sentence…”And as they went they were cleansed.”
They went, before they saw evidence of healing, they went. In faith, they went. They didn’t wait to see what happened. They obeyed in faith. I wonder if they would have been healed if they had hesitated…maybe not.
How many times does the Lord give us instructions that require stepping out in faith but we hesitate…or we try to look for evidence first before we are willing to step out and obey. And then what do we miss out on?? Do we then find ourselves, thinking (or saying), “see I knew it, He wasn’t going to answer my prayer anyway” ??
Romans 1:17 For in the gospel the righteousness of God is revealed—a righteousness that is by faith from first to last, just as it is written: “The righteous will live by faith.”
Hebrews 11:6 And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.
Hebrews 10:38-39 And, “But my righteous one will live by faith. And I take no pleasure in the one who shrinks back.” But we do not belong to those who shrink back and are destroyed, but to those who have faith and are saved.
Who are we? Are we those who live by faith? He takes no pleasure in those who shrink back…Let that not be us. Let’s not be those who shrink back. We are sick lepers spiritually speaking, let us be willing to step out in faith and obey, then we will see our miracle. Have you been praying for a miracle in your life? Have you stepped out in faith and obedience? Have you started praising Him for the answer before you even see it? Let’s be that person!
Lord Jesus, thank you for being willing to come to my rescue. Forgive me for hesitating to obey or believe that you are moving. Forgive me for not believing that you WANT to move in me and in my life. Help me to understand what I don’t understand and help me to understand how to step out in faith. Thank you for your forgiveness and patience with me.
