SEPTEMBER 30th
I heard something the other day that makes sense:
You can’t follow and stand still at the same time…unless of course the one you are following is standing still. God is moving, so what steps are you taking?
We are to be followers of Jesus. So we need to be moving along with Him. The Holy Spirit is our guide. Where is He leading today?
Galatians 5:25 Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit.
Are we in step with the Holy Spirit? To be a follower we have to know when He is moving and in what direction. We don’t need to know the destination or the final outcome or even the next step, just the first step, one step at a time. That is why it is called a step of faith. In order to know the direction of the first step, we need to ask Him and listen for/be sensitive to His nudging.
It is interesting that when Jesus called people He said, “Follow me.” That is a call to action.
Matthew 9:9 As Jesus went on from there, he saw a man named Matthew sitting at the tax collector’s booth. “Follow me,” he told him, and Matthew got up and followed him.
Matthew 4:19-20 “Come, follow me,” Jesus said, “and I will send you out to fish for people.” At once they left their nets and followed him.
The command that He left us with in the great commission is a call to action.
Matthew 28:19-20 Therefore GO and MAKE disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.
We are called to action, to follow, not to stand still. Where are you moving today? What steps is the Holy Spirit calling you to take today? Where is He leading you? In order to know that, you have to listen for His voice, be sensitive to His move. LET Him compel you. We cannot be so caught up in our own agenda and life that we are too preoccupied to feel Him move. We can’t be too busy to notice. We also need to ASK Him to show us, so that will get it on the radar of our heart/mind and brain. We should start our day that way, but also throughout the day as we get ready to go somewhere, we can ask Him to direct our steps and help us be sensitive to Him if we need to minister to someone.
Holy Spirit thank you for being with me to guide me and teach me and comfort me. Help me to be sensitive to you. Help me to remember to seek you and to surrender my agenda to you so that I can be a part of YOUR plan! Help me to remember that your plan is perfect and that it is the best thing for me. Help me remember you throughout my day. Teach me to know your voice and your moving in my life.
You can’t follow and stand still at the same time…so what step are you taking?
