SEPTEMBER 28th

Yesterday we talked about not noticing the humbler, littler, simpler miracles in our lives because they aren’t the grand thing that we expect to see. But maybe your issue is the opposite. Maybe you think too little, too simple. Maybe you think that those miracles are fine in the Bible but can’t imagine them happening today…

If that is the case, then I have to ask you why? Why do you think that way? Is it lack of faith? Is it difficulty imagining? What is different about now compared to “back then”?

Hebrews 13:8 Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.

God is the same.

Isaiah 40:8 The grass withers and the flowers fall, but the word of our God endures forever.

Luke 1:37 For no word from God will ever fail.

The Word is the same, it is timeless.

So what is it?

Have we become so dependent on society and modern medicine and government that we have lost our dependence on God? They are still seeing amazing miracles in other countries around the world, especially those countries that are underdeveloped. Maybe our technology and “sophistication” has interfered with our faithwalk. Maybe we don’t see the “big” miracles because we don’t expect them. We pray with doubt instead of with expectation.

I grew up poor and there were a few times that there was no food in the house. But I will tell you that what is etched in my mind that I will never forget are the memories of watching God miraculously provide food for our family when we didn’t know where our next meal would come from. My dad worked long and hard hours to provide for us but that was the early 70’s and things were rough. If my mom and dad had immediately gone to the food bank (if there was such a thing back then,) we would not have seen those miracles.

Do we miss out on miracles because we are expecting this world to provide instead? Do we pray with expectation or do we pray with doubt?

One thing we have to get in our hearts: if we pray that His will be done rather than our will be done and then surrender to the Holy Spirit’s leading, we will see the best outcome. Let us start to look to our Lord for answers and ask the Holy Spirit to help us walk in wisdom following His leading so that we don’t miss out on the things that God wants to do in our lives.

Sometimes that means being the miracle for others. Be sensitive to the Holy Spirit if He is leading you to take groceries to someone, or offer someone a ride, or whatever it is. One of those times that God provided food for my family happened because God told someone to show up at our door with a bag of groceries to say thank you for something. Several months earlier my mom had painted John 3:16 on their garage door as a favor. The man showed up with groceries and told us that he was sitting there watching TV when suddenly God prompted him to bring us groceries on this particular day to say thank you. He didn’t know that an hour earlier we had gathered around the table and prayed about where our next meal would come from and how we would eat the next few days until my dad got paid. We told him of course and he was so blessed to have been the answer to our prayer.

Our God is alive and active. He still does miracles. He might even use you to do one today! Or maybe someone will be obedient and be your miracle today. Brothers and sisters, this is the life of a follower of Christ! We are not in this alone. We have our Lord and we have each other. Let’s be sensitive to the Holy Spirit today and expect Him to work miracles! Either for us or through us, or both!

Lord, thank you that you never change and your Word never fails. Thank you that you are still doing miracles when they are needed. Thank you that you care about my needs and you provide for me. Help me to look to you first and Holy Spirit help me to be sensitive to you so that I can be a part of your plan. Help me to walk in wisdom and be willing to be where you are calling me. Thank you for wanting to use me.
