February 7th
Fear is not from God.
He tells us over and over again not to fear. All throughout His word He speaks promises to us and tells us not to fear. He tells us that perfect love casts out all fear. So if we find ourselves fearing then we don’t really understand His love enough.
1 John 4:18 There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love.
Let these promises sink in today:
Isaiah 41:10 So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.
Matthew 10:26,28-30 “But don’t be afraid of those who threaten you. For the time is coming when everything that is covered will be revealed, and all that is secret will be made known to all. “Don’t be afraid of those who want to kill your body; they cannot touch your soul. Fear only God, who can destroy both soul and body in hell. What is the price of two sparrows—one copper coin? But not a single sparrow can fall to the ground without your Father knowing it. And the very hairs on your head are all numbered. So don’t be afraid; you are more valuable to God than a whole flock of sparrows.
Luke 12:29-33 And do not set your heart on what you will eat or drink; do not worry about it. For the pagan world runs after all such things, and your Father knows that you need them. But seek his kingdom, and these things will be given to you as well. Do not be afraid, little flock, for your Father has been pleased to give you the kingdom. Sell your possessions and give to the poor. Provide purses for yourselves that will not wear out, a treasure in heaven that will never fail, where no thief comes near and no moth destroys.
Romans 8:31 What, then, shall we say in response to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?
What do we have to fear then? Really, what do we have to fear? If God is for us, what else matters? If we are loved and cared for by Him and He will never leave us or forsake us, then we’ve got it made. When we face troubles, He is in our corner and He has already conquered. Let go of the fear. Nobody can snatch us from His hand. Put things in the perspective of eternity: As long as our name is written in the Lamb’s book of life, the rest can’t hurt us in the long run.
John 16:33 “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”
Jeremiah 1:8 Do not be afraid of them, for I am with you and will rescue you,” declares the Lord.
Jesus, thank you for promising to always be with me. Help me remember that. Thank you that I really don’t have anything to fear because of your perfect love for me. Remind me that you will not allow any enemy to snatch me from you and help me not to wander off myself. Thank you for your perfect love, help me to understand it better. Give me courage to face the uncomfortable things in life and keep them in perspective. When I start to fear or worry, remind me that I am in your hands.
