Who is your God?

I don’t mean His name, I mean who is He? Yes, we need to really acknowledge who we have given the place of “Lord” in our life (sometimes it is ourselves,) but that is not what I am asking here. Assuming that you are going to say Jesus is your God, I am asking you who He is. Do you really know Him? Do you, know who He is? Not just in name but in nature…although in His case, names mean a lot because they declare His nature.

Jesus means “Yahweh is salvation” or “the Lord saves.” Jesus in Hebrew is Yeshua or Joshua. Yeshua is a combination of Yahweh (the God of Israel) and Yasha (to rescue/save.) So yeah, names do tell us something about God.

Do you know the One that you call your Lord? What do you know about Him -about His nature? Spending time with Him will give you some insight into His nature, so will studying His Word.

Here are some of the names for Jesus listed in the Bible, see if you can understand what these names are telling you about His nature:

Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace, Immanuel, Savior, Jesus, Lamb of God, Light of the World, The WORD, the Good Shepherd, the Alpha and Omega, Lord of Lords and King of kings, Christ, Son of God, Bread of Life, The Way, the Truth, and the Life.

John 1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

John 10:11 “I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep.”

John 8:12 When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”

John 1:29 The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him and said, “Look, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!

Isaiah 9:6 For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.

Matthew 1:23 “The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel” (which means “God with us”).

Revelation 1:8 “I am the Alpha and the Omega,” says the Lord God, “who is, and who was, and who is to come, the Almighty.”

John 1:34 And I have seen and have borne witness that this is the Son of God.

Rev. 19:16 On his robe and on his thigh he has this name written: KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS.

John 6:35 Then Jesus declared, “I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never go hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty.

So the next question is, do you know Him? Not do you know about Him, but do you know Him? Spend some time studying the scriptures listed and as many others that you can find that give you insight into the character of God. In the days ahead of us we will need to know who this God is that we serve. We will need to know that we can trust Him, we will need to know His character and His voice and His Word. The enemy will disguise himself as an angel of light, but we need to be able to see through his ploy which we can do if we know the real thing so very well that we will recognize the counterfeit.

God WANTS to be known by you. He knows you (better than you know you) and He wants to be known by you.

Jesus, my Savior, I want to know you more. Help me to learn and understand you more each day. Help me to seek you and find you. Help me to know you so well that I will easily recognize the counterfeit. Thank you for knowing me and wanting me to know you. Help me to remember how much you want a relationship with me. Open my eyes to who You are Lord.
