FHC 9-5-2026 The Spirit in the New Testament

Pastor Bill explains how the Holy Spirit is revealed in the New Testament as God’s personal presence with and within believers—not merely a force or feeling.

Beginning with Jesus’ promises in John 14, John 20, Luke 24, and Acts 1, emphasizing that the Spirit would come to dwell in believers and empower them with “power from on high.” The three main points:

1.  The Holy Spirit Reveals Christ

The Spirit teaches, reminds, testifies about Jesus, guides believers into truth, convicts the world, and glorifies Christ. The message stresses that Christian faith is not just belief in ideas, but the living work of God making the gospel real in the heart.

2.  The Holy Spirit Empowers Every Witness

In Acts, the Spirit empowers ordinary believers for bold witness, directs mission, and breaks down barriers between Jews and Gentiles. The sermon highlights Pentecost, Peter’s bold proclamation, the sending of Barnabas and Saul, and the Spirit being poured out on Gentiles.

3.  The Holy Spirit Dwells in All Believers

Drawing from Paul’s letters, the Spirit is presented as the seal of salvation, guarantee of inheritance, source of God’s love, witness of adoption, and the One who makes believers God’s temple. The Christian life is described as surrender and transformation rather than self-improvement by willpower alone.

Pastor Bill closes with practical application: believers should receive the Spirit’s witness to Christ, rely on His power, keep in step with Him through prayer, obedience, and live open to God’s presence. He ends with a prayerful invitation: “Come, Holy Spirit. Reveal Jesus to us… Lead us into truth… Use our lives for the glory of God.”
