FHC 9-12-2026 The Spirit in John and Acts - 9-12-2026

Sep 12, 2026

The Holy Spirit in the Books of John and Acts presents the Holy Spirit as both the promised presence of Jesus and the empowering presence of God for mission.

In John, Jesus promises the Spirit as Helper, Advocate, Comforter, and Spirit of truth—One who dwells with believers, teaches them, reminds them of Christ’s words, guides them into truth, and bears witness to Jesus. John emphasizes that the Spirit brings new birth, living water, comfort, truth, peace, and the continuing presence of Christ with His people.

In Acts, that promise becomes visible power. The Holy Spirit fills the church at Pentecost, gives boldness for proclamation, forms believers into a devoted community, breaks down barriers between peoples, and sends the gospel outward from Jerusalem to the ends of the earth. The message highlights that the Spirit turns fear into courage, confusion into proclamation, and scattered believers into a Spirit-formed witness.

In closing, we are called as believers to receive the Spirit’s comfort, listen to His teaching, depend on His power, pray for boldness, and join His mission.

Communion connects the Spirit’s work to the new covenant in Christ, reminding the church that Jesus’ body and blood secure forgiveness, unity, and life. A closing prayer asking the Holy Spirit to bring comfort, truth, power, courage, and faithful witness.
