The Language of the Spirit

Pastor Bill explains that words shape how we understand reality, faith, Scripture, and God’s work in our lives. He begins by emphasizing that language matters because the Bible was not originally written in English, and meaning can be lost when words are removed from their original cultural, historical, and linguistic context.

Using verses; Acts 2, John 16:13, Romans 8:26, Acts 1:8, 1 Corinthians 13, and Galatians 5:22–23 to show that the Holy Spirit speaks in several important ways:

1. The language of truth — The Spirit guides believers into truth, aligns with Scripture, reveals God’s perspective, and helps believers see the world through God’s eyes.

2. The language of prayer — The Spirit helps believers pray, especially when they are weak, hurting, confused, or unable to find words.

3. The language of power — The Holy Spirit empowers ordinary people to live boldly and faithfully.

4. The language of witness — Like Pentecost, the Spirit gives believers words that build bridges and help others understand the mighty works of God.

5. The language of love — The Spirit’s speech is marked by patience, kindness, humility, forgiveness, compassion, and the fruit of the Spirit.

Encouraging us to listen to the Holy Spirit. Allowing the Word, Scripture to shape our spiritual life, submit our words to God, pray even when we do not know what to pray, and use our voices to witness, encourage, reconcile, and glorify Jesus.

Pastor Bill stresses the importance of choosing a Bible translation that can be clearly understood, because understanding God’s Word matters more than simply preferring a translation that sounds religious or traditional.

He closes with a prayer asking the Holy Spirit to open ears to truth, soften hearts in prayer, empower witness, and fill speech with the love of Jesus.
