That depends…the world interprets that to mean “You do you” which is NOT biblical at all. But, there is some truth in the saying “be true to yourself.” -The self that God created you to be, not the self that you think you want to be, or that the world wants you to be.

Your identity, your TRUE identity is “hidden in Christ,” and that is the self that you need to be true to in everything you do.

Colossians 3:2-3 “Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things. For you died, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God.”

We are God’s masterpiece that He created in His image and everyday the Holy Spirit is working on us to surrender more of our fleshly selves to Him so that He can transform us into everything that we were created to be. He wants “Shalom” for us, He wants us to be all that He created us to be, to be transformed into the Imago Dei that He intended for us when He made us.

Ephesians 2:10 “For we are God’s masterpiece, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.”

When we make decisions, choices, or spend our time, treasures, and talents, we need to be true to ourselves, -at least the self that God has intended us to be.

Colossians 3:17 “And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.”

Who are you? That is the question that must be answered first before you can be true to yourself.

You are a child of the Most High God, the King of the Universe!

You are CHOSEN, a part of the Royal Priesthood!

1 Peter 2:9 “ But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.”

You are His Beloved! You are His Masterpiece!

What does this mean for you in your life specifically? It means that He created you for such a time as this and that you have everything that you need to thrive in your life right now through the power of the Holy Spirit! -Whether you feel like it or not!

You have a purpose. Every Day. Whether you feel like it or not. Surrendering to the Holy Spirit’s transforming sanctification of your being into your TRUE self will help you fulfil your purpose and that is how you stay TRUE to yourself.

I Thessalonians 5:23-24 “May God himself, the God of peace, sanctify you through and through. May your whole spirit, soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. THE ONE WHO CALLS YOU IS FAITHFUL, AND HE WILL DO IT.”
