December 24
We often hear people say something about being in (or not) the Christmas spirit. In actuality, if you think about it, we should be in the Christmas Spirit all year round.
Technically the Holy Spirit is the Christmas Spirit so we should be walking in the Spirit everyday.
Think about all the Holy Spirit offers us and yet we often find ourselves leaning into our flesh rather than into the Spirit.
Need a reminder?
He is called our Comforter, Advocate, Spirit of Truth who reminds us of the Truth, prays for us and through us when we don’t know how, brings us the fruit we need, gives us the power to forgive, leads us, draws us, and that’s not the whole list. Look at the scriptures…
John 14:16-17 “And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another advocate to help you and be with you forever— the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be in you.”
John 14:26 “But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you.”
John 16:13 “But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all the truth…”
John 20:22-23 “And with that he breathed on them and said, “Receive the Holy Spirit. If you forgive anyone’s sins, their sins are forgiven; if you do not forgive them, they are not forgiven.”
Acts 1:8 “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”
Galatians 5:22-23 “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.”
Romans 8:26-27 “In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us through wordless groans. 27And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for God’s people in accordance with the will of God.”
I Thessalonians 5:19 “Do not quench the Spirit.”
Let these verses remind you that we have so many reasons to walk in the Spirit every moment of everyday and abandon our own efforts so that we can instead yield to Holy Spirit’s efforts in us and in our lives. I’m thinking the results will definitely be better!
