December 23
Imagine with me for a few minutes…You are in the City of Gold, approaching the Throne room. You hear heavenly hosts worshipping and singing, “HOLY” all around. It is a glorious overwhelming sound that you can’t help but join in and as you come to enter and cross the threshold your eyes fall on the throne… There He is…the Lamb of God…the one who gave His life for you…the one you have been waiting to meet in person…no words can describe what you will see and feel. But, from Him will shine the most brilliant light you have ever seen. So bright that your human eyes in their earthly form would be blinded, the way Saul’s were when he met Jesus on the road to Damascus.
Acts 22:11 “My companions led me by the hand into Damascus, because the brilliance of the light had blinded me.”
Think back to the Throne room again… that brilliant light from Jesus both exposes you, and draws you in, at the same time. The purest light emanating from purest love. Hard to imagine really.
Revelation describes that the heavenly city won’t need a sun or moon to shine because the glory of God lights it up.
Revelation 21:23 “The city does not need the sun or the moon to shine on it, for the glory of God gives it light, and the Lamb is its lamp.”
The brilliant light of the glory of the Lamb of God will shine on us and both show who we are and who we have become at the same time. It will both undo us and complete us at the same time.
Isaiah was undone in Chapter 6 when He was shown the Throne room…then he was commissioned with a message.
We have been commissioned to be the Light to the world. We are not to just be nice, polite, tolerant people. We are to be the LIGHT. Light that shines from our hearts to others. Not rude, not impatient or critical either. We are to be THE Light, not A light. In order for us to make a difference we need to be THE LIGHT to the world. This means, love and truth, in perfect balance the way Jesus did. Full of grace, seasoned with salt. In order to be the light, we need to let the LIGHT shine into us for a while everyday.
Let’s let that brilliant light of Jesus pierce our souls and purify our hearts now. Let’s allow the holiness of God to burn away everything that won’t be able to stand before Him when we get there so that we can walk in that communion with Him now and reflect that light to the world. His light removes everything that is temporary, trivial, and tempting and changes us into His Imago Dei (the Image of God) that we were created to be. The only light that will make a difference in this dark, lost world.
John 12:46 “I have come into the world as a light, so that no one who believes in me should stay in darkness.”
Let it shine!
