The Book of Revelation Devotions Day 29

DAY 29

Take some time to read Matthew 24 and compare it to the chapters of Revelation 6-11.

Matthew 24:42-44 “Therefore keep watch, because you do not know on what day your Lord will come. But understand this: If the owner of the house had known at what time of night the thief was coming, he would have kept watch and would not have let his house be broken into. So you also must be ready, because the Son of Man will come at an hour when you do not expect him.”

So we don’t know when but we do know what. We have to remember that yes, it is gonna get bad, but Jesus is going to come and satan will be bound and then the unrighteous will face judgement. We are warned by Jesus himself to keep watch.

So rather than getting preoccupied by the details of what will happen and who will be here to experience it, keep your focus on the One who is coming. We have to keep our focus on Jesus and be about His business. Remember it will be good for that servant whose master finds him doing so when He returns.

Remember the parable of the virgins in Matthew 25. We don’t want to be found sleeping with no oil in our lamps, but instead we want to be found ready, doing what He has told us to do.

When Jesus comes back we want to be in the middle of doing what He said do.

We don’t want to be found having a debate about when He is coming, we want to be found doing what He said do.

When you find yourself tempted to discuss timing or even the details of the judgements in Revelation, instead, ask yourself if your conversation (or thoughts) would draw anyone (including yourself) closer to Jesus. If there is any question about that then trade that conversation for one that really matters because time is short, we don’t know when He will come for us and we want to be found leaning and leading. Leaning in to Jesus and leading others to Jesus.

Jesus, it is so easy to be concerned about your timing or get tangled up in the details of the future instead of focusing on what I need to do now. Help me to remember your plan for my future is based on your perfect love for me and help me to share that love with others so that they can experience it too. I need your help keeping my focus on what I need to do now and remembering how important it is for me to do what you created me to do. Thank you for letting me be a part of your plan and help me recognize the opportunities in my life to shine your light to others.
