The Book of Revelation Devotions Day 36
DAY 36
As we continue in Revelation it is important to make some statements and draw some conclusions or reminders that will put things in perspective. What is the pivot point of the Bible? What about time itself, what is the pivot point in time? In our heads do we see the “end times” as a different era that we somehow cross over into and then everything is different? Do we see it as somehow this great mark in time/history that everything points to?
To answer that, let’s consider the Bible. In the Bible, everything in the Old Testament in general points to what? The end of time? Revelation? The Rapture?
Actually no, everything in the Old Testament points to the Cross, the Messiah, the Lamb. Yes there are prophesies about the end times that are used to confirm what we are shown in Revelation but we are also discovering that everything in Revelation points to the Lamb. So the pivot point in the Bible and in time, is the Cross/the Messiah/the Lamb.
So I would call the Lamb: the Divine Echo.
Echo because it continues to ring out the Gospel message of rescue and Divine because that message echoes in all directions, forward and backwards in time. When we consider that the Lamb was named before the creation of the world it is not surprising that all of history and all of the Old Testament points forward to that and that all of Revelation points back to the Lamb.
Take a few minutes to think about all of the things written and done in the Old Testament that point forward to the Lamb of God. Over and over again there are examples that herald the coming of the Messiah and His purpose for coming, His rescue of us. Some generally symbolic and others quite specific such as the Passover. The sacrificed lamb’s blood on the doorposts of the home protected them from death. Over and over again God provided small sacrifices to cover our broken covenants until it was time for the one sacrifice that provided eternal coverage and no need for further sacrifices.
So, not only does the Lamb change everything, everything hinges on the Lamb. The Lamb on the Cross is the timestamp in history around which everything else pivots.
1 Peter 1:18-20 For you know that it was not with perishable things such as silver or gold that you were redeemed from the empty way of life handed down to you from your ancestors, but with the precious blood of Christ, a lamb without blemish or defect. He was chosen before the creation of the world, but was revealed in these last times for your sake.
The Lamb on the cross is the divine echo that continues to ring out as the message of salvation across time.
Want to be ready for the end times? Want to be ready to face what is ahead? Get to know the Lamb of God better than anything else in your life and you will be ready. If your life revolves around the Lamb now, you will be quite comfortable in Heaven as it all revolves around Him there.
Jesus, Lamb of God, help me to be sure that my life revolves around you. I don’t want to keep living like you are just something that I tack on to the beginning or end of my day. I invite you to infiltrate my mind and my day everyday, all day long. I want to be closer to you and know you more everyday. Thank you for speaking to my heart today, help me to have your perspective of life.
